How to Make More Friends at University and Their Benefits


A lot of people worry about making friends when they get to university and this is totally understandable. You’re in a new environment filled with unfamiliar faces, living away from home for the first time, you still have all your old classmates contacting you on Facebook or Whatsapp but it feels like nobody wants to socialise with just one person, and you can’t help but feel like the odd one out.

In this post, I will show you some tips on how to make friends at university in a way that is natural for YOU; there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to meeting people so just be yourself! And if all else fails, don’t forget about the other new arrivals to your uni who are just as nervous and lonely as you.

You might be thinking “Is this really necessary?”, but making friends can actually have a lot of benefits for university students. From having someone to help out with coursework or study sessions, people to hang out with on days when you just want to avoid your housemates, or people who will tell you when something is wrong because they care about what happens to YOU.

All the things I have mentioned so far are great for making friends at university but there’s one more benefit that all students enjoy and it doesn’t cost a penny; the university experience.

When you make friends at university, it’s not just your responsibility to have fun; it becomes a shared experience and so much better because of that! Join societies that interest you or take part in activities on campus and get involved with student life outside of lectures -because there are plenty of things going on all the time.

There are plenty of ways to make friends at university and I am sure you can find one that suits YOU! You might not be the most naturally extroverted person but trust me, there is someone out there who will appreciate your personality or skillset -so why not give it a go? Don’t worry about
